Southeast Region hosted An Evening With The Stars at Jacksonville Sports Car Museum!

AN Evening With The Stars (Facebook Event)

MBCA Members and Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts throughout Florida, including Members from the Road Star Section (Palm Beach region) and the Tampa Bay Section, attended or participated in An Evening With The Stars, held at the Jacksonville Sports Car Museum (JSCM) JSCM is located in Deerwood Castle, also home to The Patrons Club, a private social club.

We celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the W113 SL-series, the “Pagoda”, and were fortunate enough to have a beautiful white 1968 280 SL, with the “pagoda” hardtop featured for this special event, inside of the museum! Southern Stars Section Member Ray Hays, former President (and a current administrator) of the Pagoda SL Group (https://www.SL113.org/).

60 years ago, the W113 230 SL “Pagoda” was introduced to the world at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, from March 14-16, 1963. The W113 230 SL "Pagoda" was designed as a replacement for both the 300 SL and the 190 SL. On February 8, 1963, the final 300 SL and the last 190 SL were completed at the Sindelfingen plant.

MBCA Member A.J. Blastos drove from the Tampa Bay Section early in the day to share a 2008 Capri Blue Mercedes-AMG V12 SL 65 with us, the other main feature car inside the museum.

Southern Stars Section Member Martin Neville also shared a very special AMG with us, a 2021 AMG GT "Stealth Edition” Roadster, in designo Graphite Grey Magno (matte). To compliment it, General Manager Moe Ghanish and New Car Sales Manager Alex Shelver from Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park (7018 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32244) shared a 2023 SL 63 in Moonstone White Magno (matte). What a great pairing! Thank you to Will Izoita, who presented the car during the event; we greatly appreciated it!

Due to some stormy weather that evening, a couple of our intended VIP cars and several guests could not attend the event, but we thank them for taking the time to work with us and look forward to our next events!

MBCA Southeast Regional Director David Wommer arranged this event, highlighting several great Mercedes-Benz sports cars. Except for the featured 1968 Pagoda, all the Mercedes-Benz in the museum, including the member-shared ones, were AMGs!

Jacksonville Sports Car Museum CEO/Owner David E. Gonzales also shared his personal 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS Roadster, with “6 figures” of modifications from RENNtech, including a Magnuson supercharger! When this car is started up, it seems to make the Earth move, incredible! Museum President David A. Gonzales has purchased a few AMGs as well, including an SL 55, and an AMG GT.

We wish to thank Hagerty and Hagerty North Florida Territory Manager Vito Vacca for this support for this event!

Consider Deerwood Castle for your next corporate or lux private event! The events are quite memorable, and the ambiance is wonderful!

The reigning theme of the museum will feature modern manual muscle cars and should be open soon so the public may purchase tickets to see the collection!

Arts & Craft Museum Tour & Lunch

St Petersburg
Florida
By Linda Cooper: The Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement in downtown St. Petersburg is the newest of the many museums in the area. “In America, the Arts and Crafts movement spread across the country from approximately 1890-1930. The tenets of the movement – simplicity in design, honesty in materials, hand craftsmanship, and depicting the natural world – are still widely valued today.” This is a quote from their website. We saw everything from pottery, to furniture, to period tiles and glassware. Our group was divided into 3 with each group having it’s own volunteer docent. Our guide commented that she had also been our guide when we toured the Raymond James Western museum at another MBCA event several years ago. There were pieces and architectural elements from famous designer like Frank Lloyd Wright, Tiffany glassware and Paul & I recognized several pieces of Rookwood pottery made in the factory in the Mt. Adams area of Cincinnati where we both grew up. After touring all 5 levels, we hopped in our cars for our short 2 mile drive up 4th street to Harveys 4th Street Grill where we enjoyed a terrific meal and got caught with most of our thirty one members
from the tour.

Holiday Brunch at Safety Harbor Spa

Submitted by DanielCabrera on Tue, 2021-12-28 08:12
Sunday, Dec 05, 2021 - 03:00am
Safety Harbor
Florida
By Lynn Hutchinson: Our annual Holiday Brunch was held on December 5 at the Safety Harbor Spa. As always, it did not disappoint. We had 61 members and guests in attendance. Everyone received one free mimosa. The buffet offered a huge selection of hot and cold items from breakfast items, hot entrees, salads, cold shrimp, made to order omelets and carved prime rib. One of my personal favorites is the lobster bisque. And the dessert table was wonderful and everything was delicious. Each table had a centerpiece dish in the shape of a shell, One lucky person at each table took it home.
Following lunch, Connie Dolin prepared a Mercedes trivia game that was fun and very informative. Gift cards for Bonefish
Restaurant were given away for the most correct answers. First place went to Ben Berman who received a card for $50; 2nd place was a $30 card for Bob Martino; and 3rd place went to Carmine Pluchino who received a $20 card. Dave awarded our Member of the Year to Steven Rae who unfortunately was not able to attend. We held a vote as to whether or not to go back to doing our gift exchange and it was almost unanimous that we have it again. So next year, bring gifts for the gift exchange. By the way, it was suggested that the gifts be placed in gift bags so they can be unwrapped easier. Mark your calendar, the Holiday Brunch will be on Dec. 4, 2022, at the Safety Harbor Spa.
