Oktoberfest - In Memory of Sandor Drosbilisch

Oktoberfest was Sandor's favorite's festivity, and each year he volunteered and organized the event for the club members to enjoy and celebrate.

In memory of Sandor Drosbilisch, I would like to continue his legacy and cordially invite friends and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, San Francisco Bay Area Section members to celebrate his life on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022  from 6PM to 8PM, at one of his favorite restaurants - Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA.

A private dining room (seats limited) has been reserved for this event, and it will be a No-Host dining. A RSVP is required and appreciated, please email John Goode at [email protected]

Sandor (Sandy) Drobilisch 1931 – 2022 Resident of Morgan Hill, CA

Sandor was born on August 21,1931 in Szentendre, Hungary to Istvan Drobilisch and Anna Takacs. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2022. He is survived by his brother Ivan, niece Melinda Tuskes and nephew Laszlo Tuskes of Hungary. He is also survived by his close friend, Nita Roodman of Morgan Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife Lindsay, sister Eva Anna Tuskes, and brother George Drobilisch.

Sandor earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from university in Budapest, Hungary. He was there after imprisoned for two years of hard labor for his political activities in defense of his country against its aggressors. Following that, he participated in the Hungarian Revolution. To escape reprisal and certain death from the Soviets, he fled to Austria in December 1956. He was helped at the border by the ICEM and American Red Cross, who assisted him in seeking political refuge in the United States. In January,1957, he traveled on USNS Marine Carp to New York. From New York he continued across country on rail, ending up in Sunnyvale, where he had a sponsor. Having been in California for less than a week and not speaking any English, he was hired as a machinist by Hewlett-Packard, where he worked for two years. Other employers through the years included Kliklok Corp and American Microsystem. He also had his own company, Sandor Engineering. He was given a patent for one of his inventions. He met his wife Lindsay in 1960. They were happily married for 51 years until her death in 2011. His hobbies included boat building (he built his own small yacht), skiing at Lake Tahoe, raising Samoan dogs, and traveling (Asia, Europe, Germany). All his life, he pursued a variety of interests. He was a long-time member of the Bay Area Mercedes Benz Club,

where he was club photographer for many years. He designed and built his home in Monte Sereno, and he cultivated grapes from his vineyard there. After moving to Morgan Hill, he served for over ten years on the homeowner's association. Sandy lived a full life with many friends.

Spassnacht is On for Tuesday, July 5th

If it’s the first Tuesday of the month, we’ll be at O’Neill’s and hoping you’ll be there too.

Extend your 4th of July (or recover) with Spassnacht on Tuesday, July 5th. Meet your Benz friends at O’Neill’s Restaurant & Bar at the NE corner of Mission Road and 95th Street. We’ll be gathering around 6:30 p.m. for a casual dinner and loads of conversation, but blessedly, no fireworks.

We have our own room for private dining and the full menu is available. It’s the peak of summer — you can stay late and still drive home in daylight. See you on the 5th.
