High Performance Driver Education Day

Watkins Glen, June 1, 2022

To all our High-Performance Driver Education Attendees

As we move into the new year, I wanted to drop you all a note wishing you all a great New Year and to inform you that our date this year for the MBCA, Lotus Ltd High-Performance Driver Education Day at Watkins Glen is Wednesday June 1, 2022. Our registration fees for this year are $395 for drivers that have qualified with us to drive solo and $425 for drivers who require an instructor. The website to register is www.clubregistration.net. It is the same site we have used for the past 7 years and if you have been with us before, you should already be a member of the website. Our event will be live to register shortly.

Please mark your calendars. We have missed the past two years and we want you to join us as we take to the Watkins Glen International Raceway again!

As this is the Wednesday after the Memorial Day weekend, I am working on making this Driver Education Day more of an “event” by arranging other things to do in the local area on the days preceding our track event on Wednesday. Some of things we are working on are a tour of the Corning Glass Museum in Corning, a tour of the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport NY, a bus tour of Wineries in the Finger Lakes region and tours of the Soaring Museum and National Warplane Museum in Elmira, New York. We have also planned out a few incoming “sight” rallies from the major points of the compass to keep you entertained on the way into the Glen. Trophies will be awarded! Registration fees for the museum tours, wine tours and incoming sight rallies has not been determined but it will be very reasonable.

I have contacted several hotels and motels in the area, and there is a possibility of a discount on rooms.

I would like you to email me back at [email protected] and let me know first if you plan to attend, and second, if you would be interested in the expanded events.

If you are not a driver/student but an instructor, I apologize. Please let me know and I will adjust our list and send you a instructor email.

Again, Happy New Year to all and everyone drive safe.

Regards,

Tony Vaccaro

Minuteman Chapter Spring Event at the American Heritage Museum

Saturday, Jun 12, 2021 - 04:30am to Saturday, Jun 12, 2021 - 07:00am
Hudson
Massachusetts

The Minuteman Chapter members gathered for a beautiful event at the American Heritage Museum in Hudson, Massachusetts. We were given a private lawn space to showcase our cars and then invited into the museum to visit their spectacular exhibits of war memorabilia from WWI to the Gulf war. Many one of a kind pieces were on display, such as the only plane to survive Pearl Harbor and a Scud missile launcher from the Gulf war. Afterwards, box lunches were provided which we took back to the lawn and ate by our cars. A brief election meeting was held to ratify the appointments of Dean Coclin as President, Barry O'Neill as Vice President and Courtland Brannen as Secretary/Treasurer. Director at Large Ernie Fancy and NE Regional Director Drew Webb graced us with their presence and also thanked our outgoing President, Ed Owen, for his many years of dedication to the chapter. It was great to see the turnout and we are looking forward to our next event at the Newport Polo Club!

Visit to Fromagerie St-Albert

With the announcement of Ontario’s reopening plan, the MBCA | Ottawa Section is holding its first event of the year!  .Our first event is a visit to Fromagerie St-Albert in St Albert, Ontario on May 29th.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions the St-Albert Cheese Coop store is limiting the number of people in the store to 20 provided they are wearing masks.  Their restaurant is also open for takeout meals and washrooms are also available.  Unfortunately, they have closed the factory observation area and are not giving group tours.

While the restriction situation is unfortunate, it should still make a good destination after a nice drive.

The plan is to meet in the west end parking lot of the Place D'Orleans shopping mall at 10:00 AM, socialize for half an hour and depart for St Albert around 10:30.

The suggested route is follow Hwy 174 along the Ottawa River to Rockland and Clarence, then head south on RR 8 to Clarence Creek passing through Lemieux.  You then turn right on to RR 3 towards Casselman.  In Casselman you take RR 7 south through Mayerville and on to St Albert.  The drive should take just over an hour..

You can visit the store and people can order lunch from the restaurant if they like.  Or, alternatively, you may bring your own food for a picnic.  There is a conservation area in St Albert where we will gather after the visit to the store.

We don't want a formal convoy as that gets too complicated for that long a drive.  We will hand out the directions at the start and people can drive on their own in an informal group drive.  People will depart from St Albert on their own and take whatever route they want to head home.

The event will go rain or shine.

Social distancing will be maintained and masks must be worn when we are in groups and inside the store.

For more information about Fromagerie St-Albert, please click on the following link: Fromagerie St-Albert | Passionnément fromage (fromagestalbert.com).

For questions about the event, please contact Mike McKinnon at [email protected] or 613 2571913.

Finally, at long last, we're delighted to say that we are going to have an Ottawa Section event and we hope our members will come out to reconnect and enjoy some safe socializing.
