Ormond Beach
Florida

Southern Stars Section hosted a Drive & Dine at Birthplace of Speed, and the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail in Ormond Beach, FL!

Our rendezvous point was at “Birthplace of Speed Park”, 21 Ocean Shore Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL. The oceanfront park commemorates the first automobile race held on the adjacent beach in 1903. The history includes a replica of The Ormond Garage, which opened in 1904, and was the first Gasoline Alley before Indianapolis Speedway, built by Henry Flagler to accommodate participating race cars during the beach race season! The smooth hard-packed sands of Ormond Beach became a proving ground for automobile inventors and drivers. Some of the early racers and enthusiasts were Ransom E. Olds, Alexander Winton, William K. Vanderbilt II, Barney Oldfield, Henry Ford, Louis Chevrolet, Glenn Curtiss, and Sir Malcolm Campbell.

After exploring Birthplace of Speed Park a bit, we drove the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail (OSLT) and enjoyed views of the Atlantic Ocean from A1A, scenic inland marshes & oak canopies on the way to lunch overlooking a water feature in Daytona Beach at Stonewood Grill, 2150 LPGA Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.

Over two dozen MBCA members joined us, from three MBCA Sections and two states! We had a wonderful time meeting new friends, and hope to meet future friends and enthusiasts on our next Drive & Dine event!

No official registration is needed, although we would appreciate a quick message if you would like to attend. In January, we will aim for the Central Lot, for those who can stay in that lot from 8 am-11 am, as it is restricted entry and departure area for pedestrian safety. If you are unable to remain for that time frame, consider parking in the Exhibit Lot to visit the event, come say hi to us, and depart as you need to.
