Round Top and La Grange, Texas
Texas

We had beautiful dry and sunny Fall weather as we gathered in Houston for our caravan journey west to the Henkel Square Market in Round Top. We were 17 people in total in 10 cars, drove on Highway 290 and 237, and arrived there just before 11am. We were joined by 4 other members/visitors who traveled there directly, making a total on 21 participants in all.

There was some time before lunch for exploring the many arts and crafts shops within the Henkel Square Market as well as just hanging out and chatting about the cars. We had expected 8 x R107’s to participate but for various reasons only 3 members were able to bring their R107’s along on the day.

There was a last-minute glitch with the restaurant we had booked for lunch, and we had to quickly pivot to a contingency plan. I’m happy to report that Teague’s Tavern welcomed us and provided a wonderful lunch at short notice on what was a very busy day for the restaurant.

After lunch a smaller group of 9 of us headed south on the 16-mile trip to the La Grange Historic Downtown District. Here we parked at the Historic Casino Hall and spent some time in the visitor center before commencing our walking tour of the downtown area. La Grange has a wonderful collection of well-preserved buildings dating from the late 1800’s and we spent a very enjoyable 90 mins visiting the Railroad Museum, County Court House, Old Fayette County Jail & Texas Hero’s Museum and finishing up with a visit to the Le Petit Gourmet Shoppe.

A special word of thanks to member Charles Still from Bryant for donating his collection of Star and Mercedes Magazines dating back to the early 1980’s to the Houston Section. This is a treasure trove of information of great interest for the older Mercedes cars.

Also, thank you to our visitor from Houston, Tony Kolodny, who kindly offered to keep an eye on the cars while we went to lunch, which was much appreciated.

We had a fun and interesting day with lots of variety and beautiful weather.
